Thomas R. Kunz

WILMINGTON—Thomas R. Kunz, 79, of Wilmington, passed away Thursday, Jan. 9, 2020 at the Joliet Area Community Hospice Home.
Born May 26, 1940 in Palo Alto County, IA, Thomas Roger was a son of Alvin and Dorothy (nee Dunn) Kunz. He was raised and educated in Wilmington, and graduated from Wilmington High School. Thomas worked as an operator at Nicor Gas for 10 years, and Citgo Gas for an additional 26 years until his retirement.
He enjoyed being out on the open road. Whether it was just going out for a spontaneous dinner or traveling across the country, Thomas was happiest when he was out and about. He loved working on cars, and would always keep his Jeeps and his 1963 Chevy Corvette in great shape.
Survivors include his wife, Peggy Kunz, of Wilmington, who he married on Aug. 13, 2006; two step-children, Tina Good, of Wilmington and George (Jennifer) Good, of Diamond; three step-grandchildren: Amber, Abagale and Lacie Good; one brother and two sisters: Bill (Peg) Kunz, of Saint Charles; Dorothy (Jim) Vanderhyden, of Elwood and Rosemary (Tore) Stole, of Webster Grove, MO; brother-in-law and sisters-in-law: Edith Jaudon, of Wilmington; Pam (Dave) Loveland, of Essex and Paula (Doug) Barnett, of Joliet as well as several nieces and nephews.
Thomas was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Gloria Kunz; his daughter, Katrina Kunz and two brothers and one sister: Jim Kunz, Joe Kunz and Pat Barney.
Visitation and video tribute will be held Tuesday, Jan. 14, 2020 at Baskerville Funeral Home, 700 E. Kahler Rd., in Wilmington from 4 p.m. until time of funeral service at 7 p.m., officiated by Deacon Jay Plese.
Flameless cremation rites will be accorded following the funeral services, and inurnment will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Wilmington.
