The Reed-Custer girls basketball team began its season by blowing past Manteno 44-25 on Monday.
Even though the Lady Comets defense started out slow, allowing eight points to Manteno in the first quarter, who took an 8-7 lead, their offense came to life. They went on a 14-7 run to pull ahead 21-14 at the half.
The Lady Comets (1-0) buckled down, allowing just five points for the Panthers in the third while the offense, led by Daniele Cherry, poured on another 18 points in an 18-5 run that practically sealed the game in the third.
